“Avatar State! Yip yip!”

I tried¬†something new last time: adding more screenshots to help guide the post along. No one said it blew up their browser, so I guess it’s okay. ūüėõ Here’s another change: from now on, I’m gonna highlight the main moments in the episode instead of recapping the whole thing. You watched it, too. You don’t need a detailed¬†breakdown. ūüôā

Episode Highlights

IMG_33861. Daphne and the Winx are still looking for something to trade Rumpelstiltskin for the Legendarium Key. Out of nowhere (which is her M.O.), Eldora appears and gives them the Infinity Box, which can store anything, even magic power.¬†I know the Legendarium Key’s important, but I wish this sideplot with Rumpel hadn’t lasted so long. It doesn’t even make sense. Alfea’s loaded with magic goods: rare¬†books, artifacts¬†only the teachers know about, and even¬†a piece of the Codex!¬†Yes, some things are too valuable to give away, but you’re telling me they couldn’t find anything?

How about the Sirenix Boxes? The Winx don’t need them¬†anymore. Granted, they’re valuable, too, but all Rumpel would do is sit¬†them somewhere¬†to collect dust. Bloom’s¬†leaving hers on her desk.¬†What’s the difference?

2. The Winx go to Domino for Daphne and Thoren‘s¬†wedding.¬†I’ll talk¬†about¬†these two later, but I wanna gripe¬†about a few other things first. One, is Stella the only Winx with fashion sense now? Morphix ribbons, Aisha?¬†Who’d wanna wear¬†pink glue all over her body on her wedding day? Lady Gaga? ūüėē

Two, was there a time skip between¬†the first scene and the wedding? Bloom’s line made it sound like there was, but the scene with Selina and the Trix picked up from¬†the end of the last episode. If there wasn’t, that means Thoren proposed about a day or two ago! Talk about a short engagement!

Three, what right did Eldora have to officiate? She’s not a priestess. She’s a retired fairy godmother with too many flowers in her house! Sigh. Maybe it¬†was just for laughs.

IMG_33993. Selina finally frees Acheron. He betrays her, traps the Trix in the Legendarium, and casts a spell called Infinite Chaos that negates all magic but the Dragon Flame.¬†That’s right. Selina got used.¬†If you didn’t see this twist coming, you might not be smarter than a fifth grader. (Apologies to the fifth graders who did see it coming. ūüėõ )

Doesn’t Acheron’s¬†outfit look like the Paladin uniform? ūüėõ I confess: I thought Nex and Thoren were gonna be villains when I saw them in the trailer. That uniform just screams “evil” to me. (Great. I just threw a bone to the fans who think Nex is a villain in disguise. ūüėē )

4. Selina contacts Bloom through Griffin’s Magic Eye. After Acheron’s spell interrupts the wedding,¬†the Winx head to Magix to beat¬†him.¬†Wait a minute. Don’t you need a spell or an inter-realm¬†ship to get to Magix from Domino?¬†It’s another planet!¬†How could¬†the Winx just fly there?

They did it¬†in “Inspiration of Sirenix” (6X01), too, but I assumed they entered the Infinite Ocean along the way. This time, they didn’t¬†have Sirenix. Did¬†Bloomix give them¬†the power to fly¬†through the space? ūüėē

5. After the Winx save Selina and stop Cloud Tower from crash landing, Acheron summons a three-headed dragon to destroy them. Bloom comes up with the plan:¬†lead him into the Legendarium World and trap him there for good. I don’t have much to say about this. The scene with the Winx saving Cloud Tower was cool.¬†Why would Acheron have the power to summon a lizard spirit, though? Is it because of the Dragon Flame? (By the way, I know some fans were wondering why¬†he had¬†the Dragon Flame. It’s simple: he had the piece Selina used to free him. No plot holes here.)

IMG_34286. Bloom traps Acheron in the Infinity Box and trades him to Rumpel for the Legendarium Key. But before she can return to the real world, the Trix ambush¬†her. Great. Bloom saves the day again. Hello, seasons three and five. ūüėē Sigh. I wish the¬†Winx would fight the “final boss” (or bosses) together, like they used to.

Lots to talk about once again, so let’s get started!

EPISODE BREAKDOWN

IMG_3134The Winx have tried every spell in their arsenal, even convergence. Nothing’s working. Rumpel’s invincible, and he still has Musa’s voice. Their only option¬†is¬†to trade for it.

Oh, but Rumpel won’t take just anything for the voice of a fairy. They must give him something equally valuable. The rarest¬†thing they have is…the Legendarium Key. But how will they lock the Legendarium and beat¬†the Trix without it?

The Winx need some time to deliberate, but¬†Rumpel doesn’t wanna wait. He wants their decision now! Thankfully, Tecna manages to reason with the greedy dwarf. He gives them a day to make up their minds.

They return to the real world to an eagerly-awaiting Musa, whose hopes are immediately shot down. She dashes off to the Music Cafe in tears. That settles it. As her friends, they must get her voice back no matter what!

Musa tries to play her sorrows away on the piano. But suddenly, she’s accompanied by a symphony of instruments. It’s Roxy and the student musicians! They’ve come to cheer her up with a song to thank her for giving them¬†the gift¬†of music.¬†The Winx come in and start dancing as soon as they hear the melody. When the song’s over, they give their friend¬†a big hug.¬†ūüôā

Suddenly, the students’ instruments ‚ÄĒ¬†which lost power¬†when Musa lost her voice ‚ÄĒ regain their magic energy.¬†Now they’ll able to protect Alfea once again! That song would make a great anthem for the school, as well as the perfect shield against the witches. But to bring out its full potential, the Winx will need a bigger performance ‚ÄĒ like a massive, outdoor concert! They start planning right way.

Meanwhile, Sky and Riven meet in Aisha’s gym for their duel. The prince¬†tries to be diplomatic about it, but nothing will¬†change Riven’s¬†mind now.¬†He’s determined to¬†settle their rivalry once and for all.

Since he was the challenger, he lets Sky to choose the combat style: fencing. Morphix épées appear, and the two Specialists duke it out in what feels more like a fight to the death than a friendly match. Sky, being royalty, attacks more gracefully, while Riven strikes with anger and aggression. In the end, elegance trumps brute force.

Riven admits¬†defeat. Sky will always be the leader of the Specialists, and he’ll always be standing in his shadow. If he wants to reach the top, he’ll need to make some big changes in his life.

IMG_3146At¬†Cloud Tower, the Trix fuss at¬†Selina for her failures. They’re tired of all her¬†useless monsters, especially Rumpel, who¬†won’t take orders. The young witch reminds them they got they wanted. Musa lost her voice, so¬†Alfea’s still defenseless.

That gets their attention. If they wanna conquer Alfea, they must destroy those instruments. Now’s their chance.

They call¬†the student witches to the dragon skull, where they keep the magic¬†they’ve stolen, and grant them a new power:¬†intangibility. Now direct spells won’t affect them. They’re practically invincible. Time to use¬†it against the Winx!

Before Musa’s¬†concert, Thoren and Daphne meet up on the lawn. She drops a few hints about what a perfect set up this is for¬†‚ÄĒ you know, two people getting together. ūüėõ The Paladin gets the message and asks her to be his date. Awwwww. ūüôā (Hey, it’s relevant for later.)

Faragonda introduces the new¬†Music Cafe band, then the concert begins. The audience loves it, and the headmistress can tell there’s enough magic to¬†protect Alfea. That’s a good thing, because just then, the witch army arrives to¬†put it to the test! The Winx (minus Musa) transform, and along with the Specialists and Paladins, they attempt to fight back. But their attacks pass right through them!

Musa has an idea. If direct spells¬†won’t work, maybe the magic¬†of the instruments will. She leads the band in an encore of the anthem of Alfea and guides its energy¬†right toward the witches. Sure enough, they can’t withstand it, and they retreat to Cloud Tower.

In the midst of the applause, Bloom notices Rumpel sneaking into the college. The Winx follow him to their dorm, where he tells them their time is up. Are they willing to give up the Legendarium Key for their friend?

Of course. Musa deserves to have her voice back after what she’s done to defend Alfea. They’ll find another way to beat the Trix. Rumpel takes the Key, then smashes the bottle containing her¬†voice. The Fairy of Music’s finally¬†able to speak again.

Just in time, too. How else would she have said goodbye to Riven?

IMG_3147

There’s someone important missing from this screenshot…

After losing to Sky and failing to protect her¬†when she needed it, the Specialist¬†knows he’s not the right guy for her. She¬†deserves someone who can support her, as a warrior and as a boyfriend. Musa agrees. They just weren’t¬†meant to be together.

“Goodbye, Musa.”

With those words, Riven leaves Alfea for the last time.

“The Magic Totem?” I¬†think a title¬†like “Reign of The Snow¬†Queen” would have been better, don’t you? The totem only got a couple¬†minutes of screen¬†time. ūüėõ

Anyway, let’s get started!

EPISODE BREAKDOWN

IMG_1708Flora tails¬†Icy’s¬†sleigh through¬†the forest. No matter what she throws in her way ‚ÄĒ ice rays, giant ice pillars ‚ÄĒ the flower fairy doesn’t flinch. She’s determined to get her boyfriend back!

The chase leads to¬†a clearing where a funny-looking statue¬†stands alone in the center. It’s the totem!¬†No way Icy’s gonna let her escape with it! Flora and Helia¬†will¬†freeze in the Legendarium World forever, if she can help it!

Flora knows she can’t melt all of Icy’s ice, but she can stop “The Snow Queen”¬†in her tracks.

“Life Essence!”

Her spell thaws¬†Icy’s reindeer and loosens¬†them from the sleigh, sending it into a free fall. Flora catches Helia in a magic bubble and sets him down gently in front of the totem. Mission accomplished! Just one more thing. She uses her wand to teleport herself, Helia,¬†and the totem out of the Legendarium World.

Meanwhile in the real world, the Winx and the Specialists are surrounded by werewolves, and more keep coming out of the forest! The gang can’t fight back. They can’t risk hurting innocent men and women. If only they could find a way to break the curse.

Just when they’ve run out of room to escape, an intense magic light blazes¬†behind them. They swivel¬†around to see Flora and Helia emerge¬†from the¬†Legendarium World. The totem activates, and all the wolves become human again! Whew!

Helia, though, is still an ice sculpture. Flora’s tried every spell¬†she can think of ‚ÄĒ except one: Life Essence! Why not? It worked in the Legendarium World! With a flourish of her Mythix wand, she defrosts¬†Helia out and wakes him from his trance. Thank goodness! Time¬†for a hug…

Or not. He doesn’t want her¬†“embarrassing”¬†him. Um…okay.

IMG_1700Anyway, now that the curse has been broken and it’s safe to be out at night again, the people of Fearwood throw a celebration! Of¬†course, Flora’s not in a party mood. Helia keeps on acting cold. He even picks a fight with Riven, and Brandon and Timmy have to restrain him! What did Icy do to him?

Daphne puts him under a sleeping spell and scans his body for anything strange.¬†Boy, does she find something: there’s a fragment of ice in his heart! If they don’t remove it, he’ll stay cold-hearted forever!

Before they can think of a plan, “The Snow Queen” returns for round #2 with Flora! This time, all of Fearwood is their battlefield. Icy traps¬†the town and the forest in a deep freeze, and some of the townsfolk get¬†frozen!

The Winx have had enough, especially Flora! Time to transform and melt this witch!

Flora attacks her¬†head-on, but this time Icy’s ready with a trick she didn’t get to try in the Legendarium World. She aims for Flora’s wings and freezes them solid. The flower fairy¬†plummets toward the forest floor.

Luckily, an evergreen tree saw the whole thing and reaches out to break her fall. It slides her off its branch and drops her safely a few feet below.

Flora’s not ready to give up. But how will she get back to the others¬†when she can’t fly and can barely stand up?

Mother Nature. It’s always helped her before. She¬†begs the trees and ground¬†for help, and the whole¬†forest answers her. Small¬†vines sprout up and lift her into the air, and warm magic,¬†like spring air,¬†melts the ice off her¬†wings. Flora¬†thanks the forest as she¬†hurries¬†to face¬†Icy¬†once more.

Ha! She dares to compete with The Snow Queen? Icy releases another burst of magic, and heavy snow begins to fall over Fearwood.

That’s nothing. Flora can do better. Gathering the forest’s energy,¬†she casts her most powerful Spring Shower spell yet. Icy’s knocked back, and all of her magic ice is melted, including the shard in Helia’s heart. He’s finally back to normal!

And it’s his turn to be impressed with Flora. She never gave up on him.

IMG_1722Their kiss is¬†interrupted (again), this time by Eldora. She’s here to remind the Winx of¬†their mission: to forge the Legendarium Key.¬†They still haven’t found the Silver Spear!

Turns out it was on top of the totem the whole time. The moment Flora gets it down, it merges with the Fantasy Emerald to become a shining silver key. Their quest is over! Now all they have to do is go to Cloud Tower and lock the Legendarium forever.

But if they want the book, they’ll have to go¬†through Selina and the Trix first! Read the rest of this post
