What If Wednesday

Today’s “What If Wednesday” question: “What if a magician from Earth gained magic powers?”

First, a confession: this is based on a fanfic. Back before season five premiered, I had an idea for a fanmade season. I probably won’t write it now. The story hasn’t been fleshed yet, and now my transformation name (Dreamix) has been used. 🙁

Anyway, the villain is a famous magician from Gardenia (sorry!) named Mephisto. (Yeah, I know it’s a lame name. Me from eight years ago couldn’t come up with anything better.) His shows used to sell out everywhere he went, but after the Winx brought real magic back to Earth, no one cared about magic tricks anymore. He became jealous of the Winx and hated them for ruining his business.

One of his assistants is a witch who has been living on Earth for decades. Seeing this as a chance to seize control, she turns Mephisto into a wizard. He uses his new power to get revenge on his critics, read and manipulate people’s minds, and — of course — take over the Magic Dimension to become the greatest magician in the universe.

Mephisto doesn’t know the difference between real magic and magic tricks. To him, being a wizard is just a way to make his act more realistic and surpass all other magicians. Of course, his spells end up causing lots of trouble.

Rainbow has already done this type of back story with Selina. She was jealous of Bloom’s popularity and wanted more power, which led to her teaming up with Acheron and becoming a witch. I wish the writers would keep exploring the idea of normal people becoming magic beings. The season four comics had a few interesting stories like that.

Imagine the possibilities. Here’s an example: the leaders of an oppressive government become witches and wizards. What would they do with their new powers? How would the Winx handle the situation?

That’s it for today!

Today’s “What If Wednesday” question: “What if Tecna becomes an ambassador for Zenith?”

No, don’t leave! Let me explain.

Remember how King Cryos didn’t wanna join the Sovereigns’ Alliance? He kept saying Zenith was better off protecting itself. After all, they have the most advanced technology in the Magic Dimension. Zenith sounds like an isolated realm — open to tourists but closed to foreign relations.

After the Winx saved him from his techno-drones in “Listen to Your Heart” (5X22), he changed his mind. Tecna then wished for everyone in Zenith to feel connected to the rest of the Magic Dimension. Does that mean the realm’s attitude changed? Maybe, but she can help keep it that way.

She’s been all over the universe, so she knows how to deal with different types of people. Plus, she’s a Winx, a well-known hero. Who wouldn’t listen to her?

Most of all, she doesn’t follow Zenith’s “logic over feelings” ideal anymore. That’s why “Listen to Your Heart” was a good title for that episode. It wasn’t just about Cryos. Thanks to the Winx (and Timmy), Tecna has learned to trust her heart more, too. She can help Zenith open up to other cultures and appreciate emotions.

I know this sounds far-fetched, but what’s the alternative? We don’t know what her dreams and goals are. All we know is she’s great at inventing things and loves to tinker with technology. Why not use her knowledge to help her realm?

Plus, three of her friends will be queens one day. I’m sure they’d welcome her into their realms. She could even help modernize them.

That’s it for today. Like I said last time, I have a list of “What If” topics already — yes, this was one of them — but if you have an idea, feel free to send it to me.

Musings & Rants

If you’ve been waiting for more chapters of my fanfic, don’t worry. I haven’t forgotten about it. The next chapter will be up before World of Winx season two premieres.

I never thought I’d end up writing Winx fanfiction — especially about Aisha and Nex. I didn’t always like this couple. Like a lot of fans, I hated Nex when he was introduced, and I couldn’t imagine her dating him.

After all, I still wanted Nabu to come back. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you may remember some of my comments during season five. For example, when Aisha snapped at Roy in “The Power of Harmonix” (5X06), I said she needed Nabu because without him, she’d gone back to hating boys.

Seeing her with another guy felt weird. It still does sometimes. She and Nabu seemed like a sure thing — if for no other reason than we didn’t think Rainbow would break any of the initial couples up. I even said that in a post during season four: “Would Rainbow actually split our sweet couples up? All we can do is keep watching to find out!” Little did I know.

Story-wise, Aisha and Nex don’t feel as stable. Nex is no charming prince. He’s rude and arrogant sometimes, and we’ve seen him and Aisha argue. Plus, it’s not an arranged marriage, so the relationship doesn’t have a goal yet. Who knows they’ll even end up getting married?

This couple’s unfamiliar and unpredictable, offering no promises and guarantees.

Nabu’s death and the season six love triangle add to that feeling. Now you can’t help but feel like Aisha’s love life is always up in the air. She’s been with a different guy every season or two. Why let ourselves get attached to Nex, especially since he seems to be the least likable?

Plus, this relationship’s moving slowly. Aisha’s relationship with Nabu seemed fully developed after less than a season! If he came back, we wouldn’t have to wait for a happy ending. Why should we gamble on Nex and risk getting our hearts broken — again?

If Aisha and Nex have the most strikes against them, why do I love them? Read the rest of this post

Now this is a surprise! Rainbow made a video of ALL the Winx’s transformations from seasons 1-7! That includes Charmix from seasons one, two, and the Nick specials; the 3D Enchantix, Believix, and Sirenix from the movies; and Roxy and Daphne’s transformations. (Roxy’s grouped with Believix, while Daphne’s grouped with Bloomix even though she’s a Sirenix fairy.)

With eleven years worth of footage to go through, something was bound to get left out. They forgot Aisha’s Charmix/Magic Winx transformations — both from the original and the Nick specials. That’s a shame. Her Charmix is my favorite. 🙁

Still, the video’s worth watching for nostalgia. Bon appétit, Winx fans!
