Yes, I have a brother. I know I don’t talk about him much, but he used to watch Winx Club, too. He stopped just because it wasn’t on anymore. That was back in the 4Kids days.

Last year, we got into a long conversation about the show. I was surprised by how much he remembered. He still knew the names of most of the main characters, the three schools in Magix, and the villains (he called Valtor “Balfour,” but close enough). He also remembered small details like how Flora gets treated like a piñata most of the time (his words, not mine).

I’ve talked to him about the show a few times since then. He says he didn’t have a favorite Winx, but he liked Musa a lot. First of all, he liked her relationship with — no, not Riven (he hated him)  — her father Ho-Boe. Second, he liked that she wasn’t just one of the Winx, but she also had a dream of becoming a musician. That gave her more depth than the others.

As for the guys, he thinks they were all useless and unnecessary. They were just “Ken dolls.” I managed to get him to pick a favorite, anyway: Brandon. Why? He liked his weapon, and he admired him for being able to put up with Stella. 😛 (Again, his words.)

During that first conversation, I told him a spinoff called World of Winx was coming soon (back when we thought it would air in the spring). He was so interested, he said he might watch it! That got me excited! Could this lure him back into the Winx Club universe?

Nope.

As soon as I said the Winx are still the main characters, he said he’ll pass. He doesn’t wanna watch another show “from Bloom’s perspective.” Why focus on them again when there are so many background characters whose stories haven’t been told?

I know other fans feel the same way. They’ve talked about wanting to see spinoffs about the guys, a new fairy club, or even the Trix. He said he wouldn’t mind one about the villains, but he thinks the evil trio has been “played out.” (I guess he felt the Trix were overused even in seasons 1-3.)

But what he really wants to see is a spinoff about the older characters like Faragonda, Griselda, Griffin, Saladin, Oritel and Marion, etc. What were they like when they were younger? How did they get where they are today?

Also, how and when were the three schools founded? What was Magix like before they were built? Rainbow’s never answered those questions, but they’d help build the mythology of the series.

I told him the Winx went back in time to old Alfea in season seven. They met young Faragonda, saw what the school used to be like (complete with uniforms), and met the previous headmistress Mavilla. His response was, “A whole season of that, please.” He thinks it’ll never happen, though, because it probably wouldn’t sell dolls.

What do you think? Would you watch my brother’s dream spinoff? What other Winx characters do you wanna see a show about?

  1. I wanted to see a Prequal to the series dealing with and leading up to the fall of Domino because things seem weird and confusing. It seems to change with each season up till season 5 and even then some things aren’t clear.

  2. They’re good ideas. I especially like the idea of a spin off series on the villains, especially villains we didn’t see a lot of like Darkar & Acheron. I also think a spin off on the Earth fairies & Roxy would be interesting – to see the Earth fairies in action, maybe getting advice from the Winx now and then do the Winx would be secondary characters for a change. I personally, on the villains subject, would like to learn more about Darkar, Tritannus, Selina, and Kalshara & Brafilius and more on their pasts

  3. Wow, I COMPLETELY forgot that we even saw Griffin as a younger woman. I’ve always wanted to see a show about the Trix, but I think it’d be really cool to see one about Griffin and Faragonda when they were younger. Maybe even a Company of Light spin-off would be cool.

  4. I would totally watch any of your brother’s ideas for a spinoff; it would be a total breath of fresh air for me, and I am sure a lot of the fandom. The idea of a series about Faragonda, Saladin, and Griffin would be especially good as a prequel series, presumably with them battling Valtor and his dark armies in a Great War across all the realms, as it would really establish a lot of the lore about the series. If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it is that I love things that expand upon the lore and universe of any good series, Winx Club being no exception!

  5. What I want is hard to explain. I want there to be a spinoff series where they explore the background of the Winx universe, but each episode is from a different period in time, or a different world. However, the last three or so episodes should be a giant Company of Light story arc that you have to had watched at least some of the rest of the season to understand. It can end with a majestic shot of Daphne leaving Bloom on Earth, and then narration like “And thus the story began…”

    Ideas for spinoff topics:
    – How the Winx’s parents got together
    – An official backstory for Riven (I really don’t want him to come back, but they should only do this if he does)
    – ANYTHING about the teachers (*clears throat* Palladium and Wizgiz)
    – Griffin and Valtor

  6. Your brother certainly has a good idea for a spinoff, also we could use the other ideas listed too, i’m curious as to what happened before Domino fell.

  7. Of course! In fact, one of the three spinoffs I’ve always wanted is one about the Company of Light, showing how it was formed, how the members met and how they fought Valtor and the Ancestral Witches. I’d also like a spinoff of how the terrestrial fairies lived before the Wizards of the Black Circle arrive, and how they came and imprisoned the fairies. Finally, I’d like to see a team with the secondary [and pretty much forgotten] characters, including Riven, Selina and Mirta.

    • You could easily do a good children’s show centered around Mirta. A kind like My Little Pony where they try to teach kids life lessons.

  8. Oh good not the only guy that watches the series lol my mom made me watch it when it was on 4kids and it grew on me.
I agree with a lot with what your brother said especially with the specialists being useless, but I’d like to see a back story on blooms parents don’t really care that much about them but I really want to know which one was the heir Domino’s throne.
Also out of all of the specialists riven to me seems the most interesting he’s got a lot of pent up anger which makes me wonder where it all comes from maybe his family abandoned him
